How to uninstall Quicken

You may need to manually uninstall Quicken from your computer. Reasons for uninstalling include:

• Issues occur while installing a new version because the previous version is still installed.
• A hiccup happens during the installation when other running processes in your Windows environment interferes with the Quicken installer. (This can sometimes happen when patching the product.)

Uninstall Quicken easily through the Add/Remove Programs feature through your computer's Control Panel.

• Windows 8.1, 8, 7, and Vista
  1. Click on Start, then choose Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs and Features, click on Uninstall a Program.
  3. Find Quicken in the list of programs. They are alphabetically ordered. Highlight it by clicking on it once.
  4. Click on Uninstall at the top of the list and follow through the prompts until the program is removed.
• Windows XP
  1. Click on Start, then choose Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Find your version of Quicken in this list (it is alphabetically ordered) and click Remove.

If you have attempted to uninstall through the Control Panel, you'll want to run the QCleanUI tool to uninstall Quicken. The QClean tool is a quick, easy way to remove Quicken and get your computer ready for you to reinstall.

Important:  Back up your Quicken data file before proceeding!

Run the QcleanUI tool:

1. Create a new folder on your desktop.
2. Click the QcleanUI.exe link at the bottom of this page and save the file to the new folder.
3. Click the MSICLEAN.exe link at the bottom of this page and save the file to the SAME new folder.  (QcleanUI relies on MSICLEAN.exe to work.  You won't be opening this file directly.)
4. In the new folder, double-click QcleanUI.exe.
5. Select Clean all versions, and then click Clean. Note: QcleanUI may take several minutes to complete its task.
6. Select Quit to close QcleanUI.

Rename Quicken Shared Folders

Important: The following steps must be completed in combination with the QcleanUi.exe program for the reinstallation of Quicken.  Please ensure you have renamed ALL listed folders below.  What you choose to rename the folders is up to you - as long as the names are unique and not the same.

For Windows 8.1, 8, 7, and Vista:

1. Show hidden files and folders.
2. In the C:\Program Data\Intuit folder, right-click the Quicken folder. Select Rename, give the folder a unique name, then press enter.
3. In the C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Intuit folder, right-click the Quicken folder. Select Rename, give the folder a unique name, then press enter.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each user on your computer.
5. In the C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)  folder, right-click the Quicken installation folder. Select Rename, give the folder a unique name, then press enter.
6. Restart your computer, and install Quicken.

For Windows XP:

1. Show hidden files and folders.
2. In the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit folder, right-click the Quicken folder. Select Rename, give the folder a unique name, then press enter.
3. In the C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken folder, right-click the Quicken folder. Select Rename, give the folder a unique name, then press enter.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each user on your computer.
5. In the C:\Program Files folder, right-click the Quicken installation folder, select Rename, give the folder a unique name, then press enter.
6. Restart your computer, and install Quicken.
